US operation DuPont Photomasks, Inc. (DPI) recently announced that the company will add to an existing site at Round Rock, Texas, with the construction of a building to accommodate its corporate, marketing and administrative staffs. Already on the 20-acre Round Rock site is one of the company“s major US photomask manufacturing facilities and the soon-to-be-opened DPI Reticle Technology Center, LLC, a technology venture between DPI and three US semiconductor manufacturers, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Micron Technology, Inc. and Motorola, Inc. The 27,000-square foot building is scheduled for completion by the end of 1997 and will initially house about 70 of the company“s 250 Texas employees. J. Michael Hardinger, chairman and chief executive officer, explained that “This building will put our corporate, marketing and administrative staffs closer to both manufacturing and development operations. Placing this facility in close proximity to major semiconductor producers and the DPI Reticle Technology Center insures that we will stay focused on customer and industry needs.” DPI is a leading supplier of photomasks to the semiconductor industry. Photomasks are high purity glass plates with precision images of integrated circuits. They are used as master templates by semiconductor manufacturers to optically transfer circuit images onto semiconductor wafers. “This new facility accommodates our needs today and will be able to expand as the company grows,” Hardinger said. “The efforts of our over 1,300 dedicated employees and the commitment and confidence of our worldwide customer base have made our success possible so far.” DuPont Photomasks, Inc. operates from eight facilities in North America, Europe and Asia, and had worldwide sales in fiscal 1996 of over US$ 213 million.
