4 June 1998: The management board at the German engineering group, Didier-Werke AG of Wiesbaden, is optimistic for the 1998 financial year but with some caution, reports say. In the first quarter of 1998, turnover rose 27% to DM 399 million and ordinary operating profits increased to DM 7.8 million. In addition to the successful restructuring measures, a contributory factor was the positive earnings development at US group Narco and improved earnings in the plant technology and engineering division. At the AGM, the management board announced plans to concentrate production of fireproof products for the flow control division at the plant in Marktredwitz. Production is expected to be increased to 20,000 tonnes annually. The project will require investment of DM 88 million over the next six years.
