1 April 1999: German machinery maker Didier Werke AG reported that it had more than doubled operating profit in 1998 to DM 132 million and forecast an even better result in 1999. The company, also a maker of fire resistant products, posted 1998 group sales of DM 1.681 billion compared to DM 1.48 billion in 1997. Didier raised net profit to DM 93 million from 11.3 million in 1997. Profit from ordinary activities rose to 118 million marks from 26 million marks and earnings per share was 36.81 marks compared to 4.59 marks. It said in a statement that it would improve its 1999 operating performance despite sharply lower orders.
