5 February 1998: Dartington Crystal glassworks and a well-known Italian glass designer are exchanging the repective know-how to develop the region“s glass-blowers“ skills. Dartington Crystal invited master glass-blower Josef Marcolin to their Barbican Glassworks in Plymouth to share his expertise, after having more than 50 years experience. His Swedish-based company, Marcolin Art Crystal, is famous for its crystal figurines, paperweights, bowls and vases inspired by the natural world. Eric Dancer, Managing Director of Dartington Crystal, said: “Dartington is bringing skills to England that are not currently available. The range of products we are creating is truly outstanding.” Marcolin will work in partnership with Dartington over the next five years to create three five-man teams of glass-blowers at the Barbican works. A new range of lead crystal glassware called J. Marcolin by Dartington, already designed through his classes, will be launched at the International Gift Fair at the NEC in Birmingham in February.
