24 September 1998: Three times the size of New York“s Empire State Building, and standing at 1,228 metres high, the tallest skyscraper in the world is to be erected in Hong Kong in the year 2000. Plans were signed recently by Spanish architects in Caceres, Spain (south-west of Madrid) for the cylindrical building that will be made of both cement and crystal. It will have 368 elevators that will travel at the speed of 10 metres per second, and have the capacity to hold 100,000 people.
