8 July 1999: C.R. Laurence Co., Inc. (CRL), which supplies to the glazing, industrial, construction and automotive industries, has announced that it is building a new manufacturing and distribution facility in the city of Concord, just outside Toronto, Canada. The company expects that the 46,000 sq. ft. building, located in Tigi Industrial Park, will open this autumn. Current operations in Concord and Mississauga will be combined in this new facility. CRL says it already offers more than 20,000 different products and operates two QS-9000 and ISO 9001 certified manufacturing facilities in Southern Califoria. It also distributes throughout the US and Canada, through a network of fifteen ISO 9002 certified branch distribution centres. “We have enjoyed many years in Mississauga and are pleased to be combining that facility“s distribution experience and capabilities with our manufacturing operations,” said president and CEO Donald E. Friese. “The Toronto area is a major growth market. We believe our new facility will not only raise our level of service to our Canadian customers, but is also a good business decision.” Mr. Friese explained that combining manufacturing with on-site distribution streamlines the process and keeps its service level high. He said that CRL can react quickly to special custom hardware orders and can ship promptly to its headquarters in Los Angeles for re-shipment to all fifteen CRL distribution centres throughout the US and Canada. Manufacturing at this new facility will focus on CRL“s frameless shower door hinges, frameless showcase hardware and the company“s new commercial hardware line for frameless glass storefronts, including patch fittings, inserts and pivots, lever locks and latches, concealed overhead and floor closers and many styles of door handles.
