The Ukraine“s largest soda ash producer, Crimean Soda Plant (Krasnoperekopsk, Crimea), is to invest USD 10 million in plant repairs before the end of 2005. A source at the firm revealed that because of a lack of repairs over the last ten years, current production levels might not be sustainable. Output from the plant will reach the designed capacity of 698,000 tons of soda a year in 2005. In the 1Q of 2005 the plant put produced 236,000 tons of soda ash, up 11% or 23,390 tons on the corresponding period in 2004.
