Corning Inc. said 8 March 2005 it will sell its former Corning Asahi Video Products plant in State College, Pennsylvania, to Dale Summit Group, a partnership of local entrepreneurs. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. The buyer said in a press release that it has no specific plans for the site. Corning Inc. closed the plant, which employed about 1,000 workers, in 2003 after deciding to cease production of CRT glass in North America. The 55,000-square-meter facility had made television tubes since 1967. Dale Summit Group is a partnership of State College-area businessmen including Dale Hawbaker, Bob Poole, Galen Dreibelbis and Don DeVorris. As part of the sale, Corning Asahi Video agreed to clean up the site in accordance with environmental requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The purchasers said that after the cleanup, the plant will have approximately 40,800 square meters of available space with the potential for manufacturing, warehouse and office use.
