Cornelius Brennand Group will start up its third float glass plant in north-east Brazil. The new glassmaking unit has been approved by the federal government.
In July 2013, the Cornelius Brennand Group will start up its third float glass plant in the state of Pernambuco, north-east Brazil, with investments of 777 million USD, and 100% Brazilian capital.
In Brazil, the production of float glass has, until now, been controlled by two giants of the flat glass industry: Cebrace (a French-Japanese joint venture, and the biggest glassmaker in South America) and Guardian (the American company, headquartered in Michigan, with operations in 25 countries).
The new glassmaking unit has been approved by the federal government, which supports and encourages national companies to fight back at the invasion of Chinese products.
CBVP – Companhia Brasileira de Vidros Planos, part of the Cornelius Brennand Group, already has two plants in the north of Brazil that manufacture glass for home appliances, electronics and automotive, as well as for secondary glass processing.
