Colombian glassworks Cristaleria Peldar, an O-I subsidiary, is running at 80% of installed capacity to meet strong demand from exports, mainly to the beverage industry in Venezuela and the USA. The company, with four plants in Colombia at Cogua, Soacha, Envigado and Buga, is to restart a furnace at Envigado, idle since 2003. Chairman Miguel Penagos says the glass bottle, flat glass, and crystal businesses are doing well in 2005. In 2004 the company posted operating sales of COP 443,427 million, operating profits of COP 52,947 million, and net profits of COP 35,732 million.
