Optics supplier Carl Zeiss SMT (Oberkochen, Germany) has named US optical materials supplier Corning Inc. as its first Carl Zeiss supply chain partner. Corning“s specialty materials business will be integrated into the Zeiss processes, and the two companies will enter into a “close exchange of market information”, according to the German firm. “This enables the anticipation of need-based development, the coordination of corresponding production capacities, and the timely initiation of further developments”, the company said. “The substrate materials for our lenses, mirrors and other optical components are essential for the performance of the overall system,” said Andreas Dorsel, a board member and vice president of the lithography optics unit at Zeiss.”Resolution, long-term stability and transmission are only a few of the system features that are determined by the substrate materials. Designating Corning as a Supply Chain Partner demonstrates our recognition for the outstanding cooperation in the past and for Corning“s high level of commitment”. Corning received the award during the first Supplier Day at the Carl Zeiss SMT plant in Oberkochen. Future awards will be presented yearly to outstanding suppliers for superior delivery and product performance. Forty of the most important suppliers of Carl Zeiss SMT participated in the Supplier Day, including companies from the USA, Japan, Israel and several European countries.
