With the prospect of lay-offs at Italian crystal maker Calp (Colle val D“Elsa in the province of Siena, central Italy), workers are appealing to the authorities to intervene. On 15 March 2006, 150 workers as well as representatives of unions RSU and RSA held a march to the offices of the Siena branch of the Italian Industrial Association (Assindustria). During the demonstration, a delegation of workers was recieved in the office of the provincial prefect, Dr. Giuseppina Di Rosa. A request on behalf of the workforce for the withdrawal of the temporary lay-offs has been presented to the Industrial Association, in order to seek its involvement in the matter, as well as to the management of Calp.
