Highlights include a giant map with over 100 glass related sites, the recreation of a Victorian parlour, and the Glass Detectives, where visitors can look at, listen to and even touch the glass. By taking part in this exhibition visitors can influence the future displays at the Glass Museum. From 22 July to 15 October 2006, the Museum is to host an exhibition entitled “Breaking the Mould: Contemporary Pte de Verre”, where works by a dozen contemporary pte de verre artists from the UK, Belgium, France and Japan are highlighted. Artists featured include Margaret Alston, Keith Brocklehurst, Beatriz Castro, Keith Cummings, Daum, Diana Hobson, George Jackson, Etsuko Nishi, Patrick Stern, Sylvie Vandenhoucke, Karen Vincent and Emma Wood. Exhibits include sculptures, vessels, installations and wall plaques, revealing the diversity of this distinctive glass technique. The exhibition A Glass Menagerie: Pte de Verre by Amalric Walter, will be held from 19 August 2006 to 4 February 2007. Amalric Walter (1870-1959) of Nancy, France, is best known for his naturalistic decoration and animal figures in pte de verre made during the height of the Art Nouveau period. This is an exhibition of a private collection on loan to the Museum, which has never been seen before in its entirety and will be the largest display of Walter“s work ever shown in this country. There will also be a new book on Amalric Walter published to coincide with this exhibition. Gifted, which will be held from 28 October 2006 to 7 January 2007, will show beautiful handmade crafts by gifted British makers, including contemporary glass, ceramics, jewellery and art. Most of the makers will be exhibiting at the Glass Museum for the first time.
