The British Glass Manufacturers“ Confederation has published “Overview of Glass Container Production in the EU: 2006”. The report has been compiled from factual statistics, reported from several published sources including: annual reviews, press releases, the internet, various European trade federations and the British Glass library. It contains up-to-date information on the current state (as to March 2007), of the glass container industry in Europe. British Glass says great attention has been given to checking, and cross-checking references to provide the most accurate data available. After a short introduction, the report begins with the current situation in the UK and includes tables on UK glass manufacturers“ sales of glass containers (in GBP), as well as providing tables of the Top 10 UK glass container import details by country in tonnes, as well as export details in the same format. The report then goes on to cover European countries (listed in the table of contents) and provides a brief overview, including the amount of glass produced in tonnes and by colour (a rather unusual perspective), and goes on to give a short resume of the company, detailing numbers of sites and furnaces for each glass manufacturer. Tables of top 5 glass container imports and exports by country (in tonnes) are provided, together with contact details for each manufacturer. News items recently published are added wherever possible, and finally, notes on the country“s recycling rates/situation are given. British Glass subscribes to most of the major worldwide trade journals on glass technology. The company has the UK“s only dedicated library on glass technology, which is available for member use on request.
