The workforce cuts proposed by Bormioli Rocco at Bergantino (Rovigo, north-east Italy) will not be as hard as first feared. The glass packaging maker and unions met in Milan on 30 May 2006 to discuss the restructuring at Bergantino, which will result in 70 lay-offs from a workforce of 362. Twenty jobs have been saved from the original proposal, including some fixed-term contracts. Talks are now underway to decide exactly who will leave, with the final outcome expected for mid-July.
