Bormioli Luigi took part in the 40th Şişecam International Glass Conference, which took place June 18 and 19 at Hotel Raffles in Istanbul, Türkiye. In a presentation titled “LionGlass: from Research to Industrial Assessment of Low-Carbon Glass Compositions,” speaker Elisa Biavardi explained their ongoing work on the industrialisation of LionGlass, developed in collaboration with Penn State University.
During the presentation, Bormioli Luigi outlined their approach to decarbonisation, which now goes beyond furnace electrification and energy efficiency to also embrace smarter raw material choices and innovative glass composition design.
LionGlass is opening new possibilities for the future of glass manufacturing. Combining a significantly lower carbon footprint and lower melting temperatures, it offers a promising pathway toward more sustainable production. It’s an exciting innovation that could help redefine how the industry approaches decarbonisation without compromising quality.
Bormioli Luigi considers the conference a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with experts from across the glass industry and discuss the future of sustainable glass manufacturing.
