During a visit to the Yelizovo glassworks near Osipovichi, Mogilyov region on 10 February 2006, Belarusian president Aleksandr Lukashenko said the plant set an example of how state and private capital should work. The Belarusian leader said that Austria“s ATEK, which has invested USD 41 million in the glassworks, has fulfilled all of its investment and social commitments. The glassworks has been undergoing modernization since 2002, and two out of three stages of the upgrade project have already been completed. The investment has allowed the factory to increase output by 550% and expand its range from three to 25 products between 2002 and 2005. Mr. Lukashenko said that the Austrian company plans to continue investing in the Belarusian economy and stressed that all ATEK investment offers should be considered by the government without delay. In particular, the Austrian investor would like to build a plant for making small glass containers and a flat glass factory.
