The auction for the assets of Barber Glass Industries, which was forced into receivership by its debtors late in 2010, has been scheduled for 16 March. Asset Engineering is overseeing the liquidation. Company operations in both Guelph and Collingwood were affected, making about 100 people redundant. Owners of the company, which has local roots extending back to the 19th century, John Barber and wife Susan Barber, bought back the assets of Barber Glass Retail from the receiver and were able to save the 125-year-old business. However, the couple“s repeated efforts to reacquire the assets of Barber Glass Industries failed. The company owed over USD 15 million to creditors, USD 825,000 in unpaid property taxes and almost USD 1 million to Canada Revenue Agency.
