Crystal maker Baccarat France has set up a sales outlet in China. Ms. Anne Claire Taittinger-Bonnemaison, president of the French company, explained that the move was made possible by the fast growing Chinese economy. Baccarat crystal is considered a luxury consumer product in Europe. In the company“s newly-opened boutique in Beijing, the price of a single piece of crystal ranges from 400 yuan (US$ 48) to 120,000 yuan (US$ 14,500). During a four-month-long trial operation, Chinese customers showed strong purchasing power, according to Teoh Wei Kium, general manager of the company“s China operation. The products were mainly bought by Chinese individuals, state-owned companies and foreign-funded enterprises, Teoh said. The group is also looking at setting up two more boutiques in Shanghai and Guangzhou.
