Japanese Asahi Glass Co. Ltd. has announced that its Asahi Glass America Inc. division is to move its North American headquarters from New York City to Charlotte in July. The company will lease 10,000 sq. ft. of office space at Lake Pointe business park near Charlotte Coliseum. The office will house Asahi“s 20-person corporate staff, including legal, financial, capital-acquisition and public-relations departments. With the relocation, Asahi Glass is upgrading Asahi Glass America“s status from a holding company to an operations centre for its 11 North American units. Those units manufacture or market a variety of glass and chemical products, including flat glass, automotive safety glass, television bulbs, soda ash, fibreglass and architectural safety glass. The move will put corporate executives closer to Asahi“s two largest manufacturing divisions – AFG Industries, which employs 4,600 people in Kingsport, Tennessee, US, and AP Technoglass Co., which has 1,000 employees in Bellefontaine, Ohio, US.
