Art Glass Processing Ltd. at Bradford, northern England, has confirmed it will cease trading, with the loss of all 157 jobs at the firm“s Ripley Road site, it was reported on 2 September 2006. The company, which manufactures and sells glass components to the furniture industry, has been struggling to compete with cheaper foreign imports. Other Art Glass sites in the city were closed in 2005 with all activities concentrated at the Ripley Road site in a bid to cut costs. All 157 workers will now enter a consultation period to try and re-deploy them within the Saint-Gobain group, which runs Art Glass. David Ward, acting general manager at Art Glass, said: “The globalisation of the furniture and bathroom equipment industry has driven prices down”.
