19 February 1998: Air Liquide America Corporation, a part of Air Liquide Group, which specialises in industrial and medical gases, recently announced plans to install of one of the largest liquefiers at a single site on the Gulf Coast. The new facility, located in Geismar, Louisiana, will include two independent trains with the capability of producing up to 1,200 tons per day of liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen. “The new units will substantially improve operating efficiencies and provide greater service capability to the growing liquid markets in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama,” said Ron LaBarre, senior vice president, Air Liquide America. “These units will support Air Liquide“s strong presence in this key market by bolstering our cylinder, bulk gas, bulk liquid, on-site plant and pipeline product capabilities.” In addition, Air Liquide America will export liquid argon from the facility and maintain its existing liquefier in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Air Liquide Process and Construction will design and build the units, expecting to complete construction in late 1999. The company is present in over 60 countries, and employs over 27,000 people. Sales for 1996 were reported at US$ 6.7 billion. The group supplies oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and many other gases for industries such as iron and steel, refining, chemicals, glass, electronics, pulp and paper, metallurgy, food, health care and space.
