Last week’s meeting between Meng Ling Yan, president of the Chinese National Association for Glass Industry, and Alessandro Bandini, president of A.T.I.V. – Italian Association for Glass Technicians, aimed at illustrating the respective national realities, in order to start a serious and useful collaboration between the respective associations for the promotion and dissemination of the most innovative themes in the glass industry sector.
Meng introduced the discussion, informing Bandini on how the present Chinese market is very much oriented towards the sectors of tableware, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical glass, without, however, neglecting products in opal glass. The main drawback of this last kind of production is related, however, to its significant fluoride emissions. Products in ceramic glass, both cooktop and tableware are, moreover, of particular interest.
The Chinese National association will promote, in June-July this year, a meeting of its members with the following main themes: 1) Nitrogen oxide emissions reduction 2) Creativity of new products 3) artistic glass production 4) exchange of participants’ experiences.
Bandini replied that in Italy there is a significant experience in the cited productions, and that his association will organize a meeting in October this year with main theme of energy efficiency in the glass industry.
The friendly meeting of the two presidents also touched upon glass-ceramic productions. Bandini reported about his personal experience as a Technical Manager at the Colorobbia Group in glass-ceramic production even at zero thermal expansion coefficient. Bandini expressed to his Chinese colleague a strong interest in participating in the upcoming Chinese meeting, and proposed a workshop related to the discussed themes (nitrogen oxide emissions, creativity of new products). The two presidents left by promising to keep in touch to follow up on this important first meeting.
