CMB-Costruzioni Meccaniche Besana recently sold glass processing equipment to Saint-Gobain. The Italian company says it supplied Saint-Gobain with a double-edge grinding machine, model SQ 11/T, loading and unloading table and washing machine in January 1996. The system supplied will be used for the production of polished and unpolished flat edge glass for use in the construction industry. According to CMB, which has conducted tests on the SQ 11/T model, it may be the biggest grinding machine. In fact, the machine has maximum dimensions of 5 m x 2.20 m and minimum dimensions of 200 mm x 200 mm. Grinding tests were performed on a glass sheet of 4,800 mm x 2,200 mm, 20 mm thick and weighing 650 kg. The company says the results showed that following squaring of the glass sheet, there was a 0.5 mm difference between the two diagonals.
