For the first half of the 1995/96 financial year, ending 30 September, Deutsche Spezialglas AG (Desag) of Germany, has announced that it has seen a 13.5% fall in new orders to DM 97 million. Orders from the domestic market fell by 19%, whereas foreign orders were 6% lower than the first half of the previous year. Turnover declined by 5.8% to DM 95.5 million, whereby exports had a stabilising effect, while in the field of spectacle glass the company had to fight against the international trend towards plastic. The business profit fell from DM 10.1 million to DM 7.5 million in the first half of the year. The company is “slightly optimistic” for the second half of the year, and is targeting unchanged turnover for the full year.The board of the German company has also approved the dividend proposal of 20% on the DM 30 million.
