The Japanese quartz glass manufacturer Toshiba Ceramics, an affiliate of the Toshiba Corp., has reported final group profits of JPY 5.4 billion for the 1995/96 financial year, which ended in March. The profits, thanks to a 29% increase in sales to JPY 98.25 billion, represent the company“s first gains on the final basis in five reporting terms. Toshiba Ceramics reported a loss of JPY 1.36 billion for the preceeding period. Exports in Asia and special glass for cathode ray tubes boosted sales in the area by 7%. Operating profit was up by almost 600% to JPY 12.1 billion. For the 1996/97 financial year, the company expects sales to be up 22%, earnings per share to increase by 85% to JPY 66.04, with net profit rising 85% to JPY 10 billion.
