The works council of Villeroy & Bosch, the German glass and ceramics group, has announced that the new restructuring plans for the group“s loss-making tile unit in Saarland, Germany, will result in job losses of between 330 and 450 from the division“s 600-strong workforce. The announcement came after Villeroy & Bosch issued a warning that restructuring costs at the tile division would bring down overall results from 1995. The works council said a further 160 jobs at the Luebeck Daenischburg plant were likely to go by the end of 1997. The plant employs 1,000 workers, 390 in the tile division. Staff representatives said they expected redundancy costs would come to around DM 15-20 million. The group also plans investments of DM 25 million in modernisation work at its Merzig tile unit.
