A new custom-built furnace capable of maximising Demaglass Pharmaceutical“s production capacity has recently gone on line at Harworth, near Doncaster, UK. The design and development work was undertaken by sister company Demaglass Technology. The site was prepared and ready for commissioning within four months. Demaglass says the new furnace can handle considerable tonnage of molten glass per day and will feed both Vello and Danner production lines with around 10,000 tonnes a year. The furnace has been designed to allow for further expansion if required. “We demolished a redundant bulb furnace at Harworth to provide a site for the new furnace and apart from the old chimney which we retained, everything else was built from scratch”, explained project manager John Lewis of Demaglass Pharmaceutical. The core skills required for working with the new furnace have been transferred to Harworth from Chesterfield, which has relinquished its role as a lighting and pharmaceutical product production centre in order to concentrate on the production of glass tableware. Richard Gill, Managing Director of Demaglass Lighting and Pharmaceutical divisions. “The final step before full production was the phasing in of additional Vello and Danner lines – that“s now been successfully completed and everything“s now up and running,” added Mr. Lewis. Managing director of Demaglass Lighting and Pharmaceutical divisions, Richard Gill commented: “Now the project has been completed, it puts Demaglass Pharmaceutical in a strong position to respond to the growing market and ensures we have the capabilities – both in terms of equipment and personnel – to meet that increased demand.”
