Australian Gwalia Consolidated Ltd. has reported that production and sales of lithium minerals reached record levels for the financial year ended 30 July. Lithium production was 92,462 tonnes and sales for the year were 95,201 tonnes. The company said that due to increased and ongoing demand for the company“s lithium minerals productions, a decision has been made to upgrade the lithium minerals plant to a production capacity of 170,000 tonnes per year. This increased capacity is expected to come on stream in the June quarter of the 1996-97 financial year. Gwalia has also announced that the commissioning of its Kemerton Silica Sand Project continued with the first shipment of silica sand to the glass market in Japan made early in July.
