It has been announced that Saudi company Gulfguard has started manufacturing float glass at its Jubail plant, the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Guardian International Float Glass Company (Gulfguard), a joint venture company between fellow Saudi company Zoujaj, Guardian Industries (Europe) and the Eastern Company for Industrial Investments, will produce 131,400 tonnes of float glass annually. Humoud Al-Rabiah, general manager of the glass container factories of Zoujaj, announced that the test production of the factory, built at a cost of SR 500 million, would start in October. “We will start the non-commercial production of float glass in October. Later, the factory will also produce patterned glass and flint-coloured glass (clear glass),” he added. The Saudi Industrial Development Fund has given SR 204 million to Gulfguard to help finance the project.
