The Polish subsidiary of the French group Saint-Gobain, Polfloat Saint-Gobain, has raised US$ 39 million from a consortium of local banks led by the Warsaw branch of ING Bank, the Dutch Bank, and Poland“s Export Development Bank. According to a recent report from the US-based International Finance & Treasury, the loan will help finance the construction of a US$ 118 million greenfield float glass factory in southern Poland. The remaining funding for the project will come from US$ 20 million loan from foreign banks and Saint-Gobain itself. Saint-Gobain plans to produce 150,000 tonnes of float glass a year, in order to challenge the dominant position in Poland of UK-based Pilkington.
