On 30 May 1997, Sunglass Hut International, Inc. of the United States announced that Jack B. Chadsey has resigned as President and Chief Executive Officer and as a Director of the Company to devote time to other business interests. James N. Hauslein, Chairman of the Board, was named acting President and CEO. The company grew from 600 stores in 1993 to more than 2,000 in 1996. Recently, Sunglass Hut has taken important steps to further strengthen the company“s infrastructure both operationally and from a management standpoint. As previously announced, Edward L. Grund, who joined the company in May 1992, was promoted to Executive Vice President of Sunglass Hut North America in February. In his new capacity he has responsibility for the company“s operations in Canada, the United States and the Caribbean, totalling approximately 1,800 stores. In March, the Company reported its reorganisation plan to segment the international business and, in April, it appointed Sergio Moroni as Vice President of International Development. Mr. Moroni, who oversees European, Australian and Asian operations, has a distinguished background with leading retailers including Authentic Fitness, Fila and Bennetton.
