DK Holdings: Electroplated diamond tooling for precision cast glasswork

Specialist glass applications often require tooling that does not exist as an off-the-shelf product. Whether the process involves scientific glass, industrial components or precision glass art, the tool specification has to reflect the material, machine, geometry and finish requirements.

DK Holdings Limited manufactures standard and bespoke Electroformed and Electroplated Diamond Tooling for glass applications from its ISO-certified production facilities in the United Kingdom. The range includes electroformed diamond drills, diamond key tools, taper reamers, countersinks and bespoke electroplated tools produced around individual customer requirements.

A recent example of this bespoke capability can be seen in DK’s work with Kent-based glass artist Max Jacquard of Max Jacquard Glass. DK Holdings has supported Max for more than 20 years with both standard and bespoke tooling solutions, helping him meet the technical demands of commercial glass art production.

For one project, Max required a more controlled method of removing the cast glass surface from pre-cast glass cones. The cones, made from fritted colours, were used to form the ornate border of the Aura mirror, part of the Brian O’Sullivan collection.

DK’s technical team reviewed the process and developed a custom diamond grinding tool compatible with Max’s existing equipment. After considering different approaches, the agreed solution was a vertical grinding process using a tool rotating around the stationary cones, supported by a drill with a central water feed chuck.

The resulting tool was a custom steel-body key tool, electroplated in 100/120 diamond grit. Designed to fit the existing set-up, the tool included three waterways to allow consistent water flow around the cone during grinding.

This project demonstrates DK Holdings’ application-led approach to electroplated diamond tooling. Rather than adapting the process to an existing tool, the company developed a tool around the process itself.

DK Holdings is showcasing its Electroformed and Electroplated Diamond Tooling range during glasstec 2026 from 20-23 October at Stand B24 in Hall 11, alongside its wider tooling portfolio for glass cutting, drilling, grinding and finishing.
