MSK at glasstec: 50 Years of Innovation for the Glass Industry

For many years, MSK has been one of the leading suppliers of equipment for the Cold End. The collaboration with MSK is characterised by reliability and a structured approach. Each project is configured according to individual requirements with regard to performance specifications, glass container shapes and space constraints, and is based on proven standards.

MSK configures its products using a modern ERP/PDM system. This results in customized, client-specific solutions based on existing, proven variants. As part of the implementation of the new PDM system, MSK has subjected its portfolio to a consistent mass customization process and has significantly optimized the variety of variants relative to industry standards.

“We are pleased that many of our customers have responded very positively to these new model variants and their benefits,” said Linda Hannen, Managing Partner, under whose leadership the project was initiated and implemented. “Innovations are tested in the market and continuously incorporated into our product portfolio.”

Modernisation and Upgrades
In times of tight budgets, modernisation and upgrades often lead to immediate cost savings, whether in terms of resources, energy or labour costs. For example, energy consumption can be reduced through more efficient drive technology or an optimised machine design.

With MSK’s new electric shrink frame, it is possible to completely eliminate the use of fossil fuels in shrink wrapping. With MSK systems, reducing film thickness, which is now typically less than 80 μm, can be achieved while the layers of glass containers can be stacked higher at the same time. Lower film consumption and optimised truck load utilisation reduce the carbon footprint and lower transportation costs. MSK offers various upgrade options for existing MSK shrink-wrapping systems or MSK palletisers.

50 Years of MSK: Customer Evening at glasstec
Founded in 1975 by Reiner Hannen, the MSK Covertech Group looks back on more than 50 years of success. The family-run company, with approximately 600 employees, has been led by Christina and Linda Hannen as Managing Partners since 2013 and has increased group revenue by more than 70 percent during this period. As part of the group’s growth, Uwe Jonkmanns was appointed to the executive board as Managing Director Sales & Marketing International in 2024.

To express its appreciation for the long-standing, collaborative partnership with its customers, MSK is hosting a Customer Evening at glasstec to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The event will take place on two evenings: October 21 and 22, starting at 5:00 p.m.

MSK customers are cordially invited to round out their day at the trade show at the MSK booth with live music and good conversation. Refreshments will be provided.

Digitisation for seamless processes
New software solutions from the MSK EMSY product family and the integration of AI into MSK machine-IT form the foundation for even greater plant efficiency and safety in operation, maintenance and troubleshooting in the future. The digital interconnection of all single systems enables a fully automated exchange of parameters without the need for interfaces. Data is seamlessly tracked throughout the entire logistics process.

The integration of AGVs into the overall control system via EMSY is also part of the MSK product portfolio. “This gives us the ability to plan Cold End layouts with even greater flexibility and offers further automation potential at the Cold End and in our customers’ warehousing operations,” said Uwe Jonkmanns, Managing Director Sales & Marketing. “Our many years of experience in end-of-line automation and intralogistics across our five industrial sectors are a particular advantage here.”

Driverless transport systems connected via EMSY are successfully in use at companies such as Şişecam, Verallia, and others.

Technical Service taken to a new level
The new EMSY service pad takes technical service for MSK systems to a whole new level. At glasstec, MSK will demonstrate how the EMSY service pad provides optimal on-site support to the customer’s technical staff. Maintenance, troubleshooting and spare parts supply become simpler and more efficient as a result. Visual step-by-step instructions, guided fault analyses and recommended actions give service personnel confidence. The EMSY service pad also enables a direct connection to MSK experts, who are available around the clock when needed. This ensures high system availability.

MSK solutions for Glass Decoration
MSK offers the right solution not only for the furnace but also for decorating and printing lines. Frequent product changes, varying bottle formats and evolving production requirements call for systems that are easy to operate, quick to retool and can be accommodated in tight spaces. For the decorating sector, MSK offers in-house solutions that cover the entire spectrum of unwrapping, de-palletising, palletising, packaging and conveying systems, both before and after the decorating process.

A reliable partner
As a long-standing technology leader, MSK shapes the international market through continuous innovation and quality in the Cold End sector. Its comprehensive product portfolio, from the lehr onward to the warehouse, all from a single source, is unique.

Şişecam’s new container glass plant in Kaposvár, Hungary, is an example of one of the latest greenfield projects featuring a complete Cold End from MSK.

The Cold End at Park Cam Sanayi Ticaret A.Ş. is also a successful project: for the commissioning of furnace 40 in Bozüyük, Bilecik, a high-performance Cold End concept was developed that integrated into an existing overall system comprising a total of three furnaces.
