Glass Fibre Europe position on the Industrial Accelerator Act

Glass Fibre Europe has contributed to the regulatory discussions on the proposed Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA).

With a goal of reaching manufacturing capacity to 20% of EU GDP by 2030, the IAA is a key opportunity to strengthen Europe’s industrial resilience, boost demand for low‑carbon materials, and protect strategic sectors from unfair competition.

However, the industry considers that several provisions should be extended to the glass fibre sector, and that remaining loopholes would need to be addressed to ensure its effectiveness.

In its position paper, Glass Fibre Europe presents its recommendations to the co-legislator to strengthen the initial proposal. These include:

  • Recognising glass fibre manufacturing as a strategic sector;
  • Extending “Union origin” and low-carbon requirements to glass fibre products used in downstream sectors;
  • Ensuring that any recognition of “content equivalent to Union origin” is subject to a case-by-case assessment and excludes products from countries subject to EU trade defence measures or characterised by significant non-market overcapacities;
  • Including wind energy and its supply chain among emerging strategic sectors, and securing the scrutiny of foreign investments linked to companies subject to EU trade defence measures.

The full position paper is available here.
