Vitrum Glass Group and Guardian Glass deliver LEED® Platinum Pioneer

Located in the heart of a bustling tech hub, Cascadian is Seattle’s first LEED® Platinum Certified life science building. This nine-story structure features open, flexible office space that capitalises on daylighting provided by Guardian Glass’ SunGuard™ SNX 62/27 triple-silver coating on UltraClear™ and clear glass.

Perkins&Will designed the Cascadian façade with a striking aesthetic of alternating vertical spandrel and vision glass fabricated by Vitrum™ Glass Group and installed by Walters & Wolf.

Guardian SunGuard SNX 62/27 triple-silver coating on UltraClear glass helps the building manage solar heat gain by offering 64 percent visible light transmittance with a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.27, all with the clarity that comes with a low-iron substrate.

“When you look at the building, the vertical concept relies heavily on the glass,” explained Vitrum Project Manager Sid Garcia. “But it’s also LEED Platinum® certified, which tells you that the performance is as important as the aesthetic.”

The project was a 2024 Guardian Glass Commercial Project Award winner, recognised by judges as balancing glass-forward construction while considering the heat and energy regulation and stringent building codes that come with a project in the Northwestern United States. It’s all the result of Vitrum’s ability to connect its partnerships with its craftsmanship.

“Guardian always delivers great customer service, and the user experience with Guardian Glass Analytics is one of the best in the industry,” Garcia said. “That and our longtime collaboration with Walters & Wolf positions Vitrum to deliver fabricated glass at the highest standards of quality. “This building is a beautiful illustration of how designers can use the correct glass specification to balance aesthetic and performance.”
