Statement from Dave Dalton, Chief Executive of British Glass, on the closure of Electric Glass Fiber UK, decided by Nippon Electric Glass, “The confirmation of the closure of the Nippon Electric Glass UK fibre manufacturing site is deeply saddening news for the UK glass industry.
“This decision not only represents a loss of a key manufacturing site and 250 skills jobs in the North, but it also represents a setback on the UK’s ambitions to lead in sustainable materials critical for net zero technologies such as wind turbines and electric vehicles.
“Nippon Electric Glass UK has been a vital part of the UK’s economy and it’s closure highlights the need for a competitive industrial strategy to address the costs crippling UK manufacturing.”
