Japanese firm, Yamamura Glass is involved in a 500 ml mini-PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottle business with Mitsubishi Plastics. A new plant exclusively for mini-bottles will come on-line around May 1997 with an output of 100 million PET bottles. Of the Yen 2 billion investment in the mini-bottle project, Mitsubishi Resin will provide Yen 1 billion towards the manufacturing line, with the rest to be assumed by Yamamura. Since March when regulations were lifted on mini-bottles, demand has soared and approximately 500 million bottles are projected to be shipped out to the cities during 1996.
