Wausau Window and Wall Systems of Wisconsin has announced plans to bring its operations together under one roof in a new 32,500-square-meter facility. The site for the new building, which will cover an area of about six football pitches, has not yet been decided. Rick Marshall, president of the window and curtainwall manufacturer, told employees on 2 May 2007 that parent company Apogee Enterprises had approved the plans for the new building. “When I told the employees yesterday, they were jumping for joy”, Marshall said. “It“s been a long time coming. We had outgrown our facilities, and it“s time to move on”. The company plans to sell its facility at 1415 West St. on Wausau“s west side, and sister company Linetec will take over ownership of the companies“ shared plant at 725 S. 75th Ave. in the Wausau West Business and Industrial Park, said Mr. Marshall, who is also president of Linetec. “This will just expand Linetec“s presence and potential growth in the Industrial Park”, Marshall said. Wausau Window and Wall should become more efficient and have room to expand its business in the new building, which is expected to be ready by autumn 2008, Mr. Marshall said. The project will be built within the greater Wausau area, he added. Wausau has been home to the company for 50 years, and city leaders hope that will continue. “We will do what we can to keep them in the city”, said Kristen Fish, the city“s assistant director of community development. “We value them as a major employer and will work hard to keep them in the city limits”.
