Vitro, S.A. de C.V. announced 21 May 2004 its active membership and participation in the new “T“ Distinctive certification program that the Tequila Regulatory Council (TRC) and the Tequila Industry National Chamber launched on 19 May 2004. Designed to guarantee the quality of Mexico“s national drink, the program focuses on alcoholic beverage businesses that sell tequila. The main objectives of the “T“ Distinctive program are to protect the denomination of tequila“s origin; preserve the product“s authenticity; prevent product imitation or adulteration; promote tequila“s heritage and culture; and ensure that only tequila certified by the TRC is sold as tequila in Mexico. To further the goals of the program, Vitro will collect glass containers from bars, restaurants, and hotels as part of the TRC“s 10th anniversary celebrations. “Vitro is a socially responsible Company and we dedicate our efforts to upgrade our communities in which we operate through our recycling programs. “T“ Distinctive program allows us to assure quality and health to consumers”, said Alfonso G-mez Palacio, Vitro“s President of Containers. According to Edgar Romero, Vitro“s Wine & Liquor West Zone Marketing Manager, they are highly optimistic about the results of the program, which will be launched in Guadalajara, Mexico, and then implemented nationwide. “Vitro will support this program by frequently collecting empty glass bottles from tequila sales points and then recycling glass containers shipped to our production facilities,” said Mr. Romero. This measure is designed to prevent individuals from collecting empty bottles, refilling them with low-quality tequila, and selling them on the black market with their original labels. Mr. Romero is confident that the “T“ Distinctive program will succeed and enjoy the full support of business owners and managers. To obtain a “T“ Distinctive certificate (a logo that is displayed to consumers at participating sales points) each business will have to comply with certain regulations and ensure its staff completes TRC training courses. Mr. Romero explained that once a business is certified, it will be visited at least twice a year to ensure compliance.
