The glass fibre used in a composite bridge opened recently in the United States was supplied by US firm Vetrotex CertainTeed. Kansas Structural Composites, the bridge supplier, claims that the new design is similar or lower in cost than conventional types. In 1997 the University of California is to collaborate with an industrial consortium to construct three composite bridges.
