TK completes installation of jumbo chemical tempering line in North America

An engineering marvel in glass industry

In the world of high-performance glass, some projects stand out not just for their technical complexity, but for their pure physical presence. Today, we are looking at a landmark achievement for TK: the engineering and installation of a CT 360 chemical tempering plant. This massive system is one of the largest of its kind ever deployed in North America, serving as a testament to what happens when Italian engineering meets ambitious industrial goals.

Walking along the plant, you truly feel the scale of the operation. Measuring 22 meters in length and reaching 8 meters in height, the CT 360 was built to handle the heavyweights of the industry. With a salt bath capacity of 43 tons Kn03 and the ability to process glass sheets up to 2500mm x 4000mm, it opened up new doors for architects and designers who require jumbo, ultra-strong glass without the optical distortions often found in traditional tempering.

What truly sets TK apart from the competition?
While many in the industry primarily associate the TK brand uniquely with world-class safety glass lamination kilns, this installation highlights a much broader reality. TK is a full-spectrum partner in glass processing. What truly differentiates TK in a crowded market is not just the machinery, but the philosophy behind it. Every plant built is designed and manufactured using exclusively high-quality European components, ensuring reliability that lasts over time.

Indeed, TK specialised team handles the entire installation, followed by rigorous on-site training for customers. This is all backed by a dedicated post-sales assistance program that treats every client as a long-term partner.

Why Chemical Tempering?
For those new to the process, chemical tempering is a sophisticated ion-exchange method. By submerging glass into a specific salt bath, larger ions are forced into the glass surface, creating a layer of extreme compression. Unlike thermal tempering, this process allows for the strengthening of very thin glass or complex shapes without any risk of warping or losing optical clarity.

The beauty of this technology lies in its flexibility. While the CT 360 is a giant, TK recognises that every facility has different needs. TK specialises in designing and realising these systems in any dimension, scaling the technology to fit specific production goals and floor space. From small-scale precision optics to huge architectural panels, TK builds the solution that fits client’s needs.

Experience TK Chemical Temper in motion
To help you fully visualise the scale and precision of this engineering marvel, TK team has also produced a dedicated 3D video. This presentation offers a realistic walk-through of the plant, providing a clear and immersive look at its functionality and the seamless flow of its operations.
