The first foundation stone of a new fiberglass plant in the Alabuga special economic industrial production zone (SEZ) in the Russian Republic of Tatarstan was ceremonially laid on 4 July 2008, the press-centre of Tatneft reported. The joint venture “P-D Tatneft Alabuga Steklovolokno” founded on 50-50 basis by Tatneft-Alabuga (a 100% subsidiary of OAO Tatneft) and P-D Glasseiden GmbH Oschatz (a subsidiary of Germany“s Preiss – Daimler Group) is based at the SEZ. The ceremony to launch construction of the new plant was attended by Rustam Minnikhanov, prime minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Thomas Yurk, vice prime minister – minister of Economy and Labor for the federal German state of Saxony, Vladimir Lavuschenko, deputy general director of OAO Tatneft, Juergen Price, president of Preiss-Daimler Group, Shagivaleev Timur, head of the Territorial Administration“s Federal Agency for Management of SEZs in the Republic of Tatarstan as well as by several other representatives of the business community in Saxony, the Tatarstan government, Alabuga SEZ and senior experts from OAO Tatneft. The project has been reviewed by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Tatarstan and has received high praise. Its implementation will allow high tech production in the Republic, exports to overseas markets, the creation of new jobs in the region and will increase the flow of tax revenues to all levels of government. The plant will produce high-quality, competitive products for use in construction, automotive, shipbuilding, electrical and other industries. The production capacity is 20,700 tons per year. The cost of the project is RUR 2.2 billion. The new plant enjoys the possibility of using local raw materials, a convenient geographical location, proximity to major petrochemical, automobile manufacturing and other industrial plants, as well as the region“s developed transport infrastructure. The foreign investor, P-D Glasseiden GmbH Oschatz company, is a leader in Europe for the production of fiberglass and possesses the latest technologies for the manufacturing of various fiberglass-based products.
