18 February 1999: According to local reports, a Syrian-Kuwaiti joint-venture announced late last year that it has decided to build a US$ 130 million glass factory near the Syrian capital, Damascus. The director of the Damascus-based Kuwaiti United Investment Company said that the venture“s board of directors adopted the decision after a two-day meeting. Kuwaiti United Investment Company, a Kuwaiti-Syrian holding company, is capitalized at US$ 200 million. Additionally, the company is planning to establish future additional factories in Syria including a facility to produce insulation, adhesive materials, and heat-resistant bricks.
