The laws on beverage containers in force in Switzerland since 1990 have been revised, according to a recent report. The new laws, which are still under discussion, are expected to become effective on 1 January 2000. The change involves glass containers, on which a prepaid tax will be levied for capacities greater than 0.15 litre. The tax will depend on the bottle size, with a maximum of SFr 0.10 per container. It will be levied on both glass container producers and importers.
