Germany“s Steinert Industries GmbH is to build a glass production and treatment plant in Aktobe, Kazakhstan in 2006, said Kaisar Omarov, chairman of the construction and residential utilities committee at the Kazakh Ministry for Trade and Industry. He said that the launch of the plant would take place in stages. “We expect that it will be launched in full in 2009,” he said. “Domestic demand in the republic will increase to 9 million square meters of glass by 2010. But if we consider that the potential sales market for this product is enormous – countries in Central Asia, Russia, Afghanistan, Iran and Europe – then the project may turn out to be very promising for Kazakhstan,” Omarov said. Construction work will be carried out by Interglass-Kazakhstan, founded by Steinert Industries GmbH. The complex, which will have a capacity of 21.7 million square meters of glass per year, will cost EUR 236 million. According to its company website, Steinert Industries is “an investment and industrial group acting in the markets of Central Asia”.
