The US firm SpecTran Corporation , which develops, manufactures and markets glass optical fibres and value added fibre optic products, announced last week that its existing agreement to supply Corning, Incorporated with multimode fibre has been increased by approximately US$ 11 million to US$ 28 million. The term of the contract, which was announced in February 1996, has not changed from the original three years. The fibre will be used to supplement Corning“s own multimode fibre production. The fibre will be manufactured by SpecTran“s Communication Fiber Technologies subsidiary. “The additional capacity we are adding starting in the second half of 1997 will enable us to satisfy Corning“s additional requirements without impacting product supply or service to our other customers,” noted SpecTran Communication Fiber Technologies President, John E. Chapman.
