Sklo Bohemia, of the Czech Republic, recently reported export sales totalling 70% of output. According to the company, its primary export markets are the UK, Japan and Germany although the company has also established itself in Brazil, Argentina, South Africa and China in recent years. Most of the export sales are handled by trading company Skloexport although a large proportion of domestic sales are now handled by the company“s own-brand retail network. Sklo Bohemia is keen to maintain output levels of high-quality hand-made items while increasing output of machine-made glassware, managing director Josef Malecek said. The company has invested Czk 320 million in new plant over the past two years in a bid to retain its position as one of the world“s top producers. The costly investment programme will reduce Sklo“s 1995 profits from Czk 93.4 million to Czk 30 million although strong profit growth to Czk 120-140 million is forecast for the current year.
