One of Czech glassworks Crystalex Novy Bor“s six plants, Sklarny Cesky Kristal, last year turned out products worth Czk 221 million; up Czk 2 million on the preceding year, and managed to substantially reduce its loss from 1994“s Czk 28 million, CEO Vaclav Suchan announced. Mr. Suchan said the company has focused on cost-cutting and reducing stock. The number of employees was cut by 55 people, and labour productivity increased. At the same time, the average wage grew to Czk 6,900 last year, although workers are paid only for quality products. Hand-made products account for 70% of Sklarny“s output. Two thirds of the company“s exports are through Skloexport foreign trade company, but Sklarny is trying to export even more of its products directly. Crystalex has share capital of Czk 930.7 million and is the Czech Republic“s largest producer of non-decorative glass. Sklarny employs 650 people and is Crystalex“s second largest plant after that in Novy Bor. Crystalex expects to record over Czk 100 million net profit for 1995.
