Turkish Sisecam said on 14 September that it had invested EUR 5 million in a new transport and logistics unit in Bulgaria to service the company“s distribution network throughout Europe. “Trakia Glass Logistics […] has been created to service the growing distribution network of the company in the country and abroad. By this Trakia Glass Bulgaria [Sisecam“s Bulgarian subsidiary] provides full cycle of manufacturing and delivering of the finished product,” Sisecam said in a statement. Trakia Glass Logistics started the delivery of 250 tonnes of flat glass panes of 19 square metres (Jumbo) to Turkey on 14 September. The company will be delivering Jumbo glass to Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Austria, Romania and Greece at the beginning of October, the statement said. The company said it expects sales of Jumbo flat glass to reach EUR eight million in 2007. No comparative figures were immediately available. Sisecam opened its glassware factory in Targovishte, the first out of three planned for Bulgaria, in 2005. The second factory, which cost some USD 120 million, became operational in February. The company exports over 80% of its output mainly to southeastern Europe, also exporting to Russia and other European countries. Sisecam will have invested a total of USD 220 million by the end of 2006, when it plans to launch its third plant in Bulgaria. Sisecam holds between 30% and 35% of the flat glass market in Bulgaria and 40% of the glassware market.
